Information Services Support for Students

Students and staff can use the Queen's University Belfast Mobile app to find campus news, buildings on campus, timetables, access library services with a digital barcode and more besides.

Transition Skills for University

Transition Skills for University, which students can access on Canvas, has been created by the Learning Development Service with input from colleagues in the Student Wellbeing Service, Accessible Learning Support, the Library, University Schools, and students. Transition Skills for University comprises six units of interactive academic skills resources and is intended to support undergraduate students adjust to higher education learning.

Term Dates  

Please note that the university publishes its semester dates here. 

However, the precise timetable of activity varies between programmes and, due to the nature of the course, some courses have additional teaching/placements/professional practise requirements which fall outside of the normal semester dates. 

Academic English Service

Queen’s, in partnership with INTO Queen’s, offers a range of free English Academic English classes for academic purposes for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate international students. 

The Academic English Service team work closely with academic staff to ensure the content is relevant, and programmes are tailored to your degree, or to the School in which you study. They are also personalised according to the types of assessments you will complete on your degree programme.

• Individual Consultations for personal guidance on Academic English and skills

You will be enrolled automatically on any courses specific to your study area and you can register for the additional generic courses at the beginning of each semester.  You will be sent information on all courses when you enrol at Queen’s at the start of your programme.

Canvas 

Canvas is the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) at Queen’s which is used to support teaching and learning across the University.  As a digital learner, Canvas is largely at the centre of all your learning.  Face-to-face teaching is complemented by online delivery where appropriate. 

Student-teacher interaction is a key part of our learning model. Queen’s offers an authentic university experience through Connected Learning, which means that you will receive a blend of face-to-face teaching and virtual learning. Where it is not possible or optimal to deliver face-to-face teaching, Canvas will provide a full, interactive learning platform. 

Turnitin in Canvas 

A Central University Turnitin Account has been created for Turnitin assignments created and submitted through Canvas. This allows classes, assignments and both staff and student users accounts to be created automatically in Turnitin without the need for any additional effort required by teaching/support staff.

The integration also allows staff and students to create, submit and grade assignments as well as viewing plagiarism reports, grades and feedback without ever having to leave Canvas or login to Turnitin.
